Last week: a terrific residency at Texas State University-San Marcos, featuring performances of Avenue X (led by Caroline Beatty), Moon by Night, and a premiere performance of My Hands Are a City conducted by co-commissioner Rod Schueller. This week: a residency at Arizona State University, where Gary Hill conducts his ensembles in performances of As the scent of spring rain..., Avenue X, and the Concertino for flute solo, chamber winds, and piano, featuring soloist Elizabeth Buck.

Tonight at Town Hall, the NY Premiere of Concertino for flute solo, chamber winds, and piano, with the Boston University Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Richard Cornell with flutist Elsbieta Brandys, as part of my alma mater's InCite Festival.

This week I'll be in Japan as a guest of the Japan Wind Ensemble Conductor's Conference, where Climbing Parnassus, a new work co-commissioned by "The Heartful Winds", Nagoya Wind Symphony, Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble KANADE will premiere on the final concert of the festival with a special ensemble combining all the commissioners.

3 performances this week at the CBDNA Regional hosted by UMKC and 2 at the CBDNA Southern Regional at Coloumbus State. In Kansas City, the Oklahoma University Wind Symphony performs As the scent of spring rain..., the Texas A&M-Commerce Wind Ensemble premieres My Hands Are a City, and the Texas State Wind Symphony plays Moon by Night. In Georgia, Georgia State's Robert Ambrose does a clinic on Moon by Night, and the Niceville High School Band performs As the scent of spring rain... with Frank Wickes conducting.

Tomorrow I go to Atlanta for Thursday's World Premiere at the Society of Composers Conference of my Concertino for flute solo, chamber winds, and piano, with Robert Ambrose conducting the Georgia State University Wind Ensemble with Sarah Kruser Ambrose, flute soloist. Immediately afterward I head to Dallas for the Commerce Wind Ensemble's World Premiere of My Hands Are a City, under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Gershman.

New Work: My Hands Are a City, a movement for large wind ensemble, celebrating Beat Generation themes, and expanding on my short work The Rivers of Bowery. MHAaC premieres begin in 7 days at Texas A&M-Commerce, Eastern Illinois University, University of Georgia, and the CBDNA Southwestern Regional Conference in Kansas City.

It's Midwest Clinic 2007 this week, and Saturday Dec. 22, Kevin Sedatole's fantastic Michigan State University Wind Symphony, performs As the scent of spring rain..., with guest conductor Isaiah Odajima, to cap off this year's Chicago party.

We've successfully scheduled the first World Premiere performance of the Concertino for flute solo, chamber winds, and piano: Society of Composers National Conference, February 21, 2008, at Georgia State University in Atlanta, conducted by Robert Ambrose, with soloist Sarah Kruser Ambrose.

This Sunday, two As the scent of spring rain... performances, which might actually be near-simultaneous due to time difference: H. Robert Reynolds conducts the USC Thornton Wind Ensemble in L.A., and Kevin Sedatole conducts the Michigan State University Wind Symphony in E.Lansing.

An auspicious day - my Birthday (happens every year), and a Tanglewood Ozawa Hall premiere. H. Robert Reynolds conducts As the scent of spring rain... with the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Wind Ensemble. As a BUTI alum, I am likely biased, but the ensemble is fantastic, the Maestro impeccable, the surroundings breathtaking, and the hall world class. Happy birthday!

Last night The New York Miniaturist Ensemble premiered Dohyci, a new miniature I wrote for them for violin and bass clarinet. The NYME is dedicated to performing works composed of a 100 notes or fewer. Doyci premiered at Makor on W.67th Street, along with 2000 other notes.
